50# 52" Hornet Flatbow

Pete with the Hornet Flatbow at full draw.

I first saw this bow at the A.T.B.A. Jamboree last year and instantly liked it. This is a short flatbow, 50# . 52" long that is well suited for those with a draw length not over 28". It has bamboo limbs and Ebony overlays with a straight grip wrapped in leather.  Other shaped grips are available. Just tell Bert what you like and he will make it.

The Hornet has Berts signature limb tips, the top tip is long and slender and the lower tip is rounded. This is due to the practice many have of putting the tip on the ground while talking or on stand. The logic makes sense as fine tips and the ground are a bad combination at best.

The Hornet was named for its looks not its performance, although it does shoot quite well . The natural Bamboo and Ebony make for a striking look. Many shooters that tested the hornet were impressed with its feel and looks. One of them, Dennis Dobrowolski liked it so much that after shooting it at a recent longbow shoot he ordered one.

The short length is ideal for shooting in thick brush where longer bows can not be shot without hitting the limbs on branches.I can shoot the Hornet sttting on the ground without much concern of digging the tip into the dirt. This makes it an excellent choice for stalking or blinds and tree stands.

With the straight grip the hornet does have some mild shock to it. I don't find that it is objectionable , but it needs to be mentioned in fairness to the bows that do not have any shock..With a pair of beaver balls it is a quiet shooting bow and the string vibration is gone.Like all bows some sort of silencers are needed .

The Hornet handles heavy arrows with ease and shooting 600 gr plus arrows semed to be right for it.I have no trouble with accuracy and at the recent longbow shoot I was very pleased with my shooting .Some shots were in tangled willows and the Hornet was well suited for these shots. The Hornet does have some eye candy appeal that draws people to it. The short length and  smooth draw makes it  an all round package that is meant to hunt. Those of us that frequently shoot in tight quarters or stalk the heavy bush will like its light weight and manouverability. With a black glass and locator grip {both are available} the Hornet would be ideal for the hunter in a Pop up blind like the Double Bull I use.It would not be as pretty but it would be deadly and that is what we really want.
