Pat waiting for an Elk with the Protoype CX ready for business.
Let me start this review by saying this bow is fast becoming my “go to” bow. It is all they say it is and much more.
When I first heard that OL was going to build a 3-piece prototype bow for me to test I couldn’t wait for it to arrive. As luck would have it I was out of town the day it arrived. Peter was meeting me at our daughter’s house and decided to bring it with him so I could see it. Being the nice guy he is, he neglected to bring arrows!! I spent the weekend in anticipation of when I would be home and could shoot her instead of just looking at it .
I have had the privilege of shooting many of the top bows available, but when I shot the first arrow out of the 3 piece CX I was hooked!! This bow fits like a glove, I had told OL I have very small hands and he shaped the riser to fit.
I received my bow labour day weekend and shot the first arrow ofrom it on Monday of the Holiday.I got a set of arrows tuned up for it , which was very easy . I seemed to have found the universal arow as they fly well out of all of my bows. The following weekend we left on a 10 day Elk hunting trip and i took the prototype 3 piece ACS-CX with me .Arriving at camp I informed Pete that we hadn't tuned my broadheads yet. Again there were no problems getting perfect flight and shooting where my field points we hitting. I put on the Silver Flame Broadheads and let loose! They flew the same as the Field point tiped arows and we were ready to go.unfortunately I did not get a chance to try them on an Elk !! All I saw were Whitetalis and I had not picked up tags for them yet, as this was an Elk and Moose trip afterall. I shot the CX all winter in our Dart league and did very well in the finals making it to the third round before being eliminated, my best finish yet O.L. contacted us in the spring and said he had an up-grade available and could I send my beloved bow back to have the changes made (I had a prototype of the stock 3 piece that did not have the new standard bolt pattern){.the new risers have a standard bolt/pin patern and are now the final version for the stock 3 piece CX} I was heart broken, this felt like saying good-bye to an old friend. In short order (what seemed like a lifetime at the time) my up-grade arrived. This was a brand new bow, as the old limbs would not fit on the new riser. The new50# limbs were 3#s lighter than the old ones, and I thought I would have to tune arrows all over again. The bow arrived on a Friday morning and we left that afternoon for our first sanctioned 3-D shoot of the year. I had taken a quiver full of arrows with me and had time Friday night to shoot a few before dark. Saturday morning found me up early and at the practice butts making the final adjustments to the bow’s,nockpoint and brace height. Due to the lack of female competitors in our area I decided to shoot in the men’s class this year. After the first round I was in second place, one point off the leader. Not bad for having the bow less than 24 hours!! I finished in second place at the end of the shoot and added one more second place and a fourth place finish in our three sanctioned shoots this year finishing second overall behind Peter who was also shooting a three piece CX. Not bad for a girl! When I take my bow to a shoot or the range it is always available for other people to try, as long as I can see it, they are always surprised at how smooth and well it shoots. We usually have to go looking for their first arrow as they go over the butts. The first comment I hear is that the bow can’t be 50#s as it draws too easily. The next statement is “Wow, that is fast”. The CX is definitely a fast and smooth shooting bow and someday down the road I can see myself getting a lighter set of limbs for 3-D and using the 50# ones strictly for hunting.I have shot thousand of arrows out of my bow and a typical shooting session lasts about 4 hours.I find I do not get tired and could probably shoot longer if there was more daylight. I would highly recommend this bow to anyone that wants an excellent smooth and fast bow, but mine is off limits!!!
