Review:

The Quick Stick longbow from Bearpaw is a 60" mild deflex / reflex  longbow that is easy to look at and nice to shoot. This style of bow has proven to be pleasant in the hand with it's typical quiet shot, minimal vibrations  and shock free characteristics. The Quick Stick is no exception to this.It is a pleasant to shoot bow that is easy to like.

The BearPaw Quick Stick draws smooth, and is very well mannered in the hand. I like shooting this bow .If I did not like shooting it you would not be reading this review. The Quick Stick is like a big brother to the Little Stick from Bearpaw that I like so much, with a few refinements and up grades.

The grip is a low ,pistol grip which suits me fine.It is quite comfortable and repeated hand placement comes without any conscious effort. I pick it and it settles into my hand the same way every time. The contours are nicely rounded  and smooth, without those sharp edges we often see on some other bows. My thumb sits easily into the recess made for it, and the slight palm swell is effective without being noticeable to me. I like the grip a lot and the Red Nicaragua Cocobolo has some good looking grain structure to please the eyes.

The fit and finish on this bow is good  . The glue lines are precise, and actually hard to see on the limb lamination's.The fades are long and fine , feathering into the limb as if they grew there.I can not find a single tool/ sanding mark on the bow. Limb edges are nicely rounded without any sharp edges to be chipped in the field. The tiller is set positive , 3/16" top, and is even thru both limbs. Limb stability is excellent even at the low 6 1/2" brace height where I shoot this bow. I did not find it necessary to shoot it at the recommended 7 1/4" brace height to have a hunting quiet, shock and vibration free shot.

The non glare finish is evenly applied .

Bearpaw bows do have a finish different from what I am used to. Often on the riser woods there will be some pores visible if you look for them. I spoke with Henry at Bearpaw about this , and explained that I would like to see more finish coats to cover this.

Here is Henry's reply:

I talked to Chris my master bowyer in the matter of the grain holes. He told me that our European customers like the natural feeling and view of pure wood. We never got any complaint in this matter. Of course it will take 2 more steps to put laquer on the handle to fill the pores. At this time we produce all bow handles on this way.

Perhaps I am being overly critical, and I need to accept that this is just another way of doing things that is new to me . I certainly do not consider this a big concern , it is just a different way of finishing the riser, to suit another cultures preferences.  I must say that you do need to look closely to find the pores I am commenting about.  The good part is you will not have any reflections from this satin finish, and  it is a  good application that should last a lifetime.

The clear glass is exactly that, CLEAR. No annoying streaks or white spots to ruin the looks. The Bamboo under the glass is rather plain, and uneventful as bamboo usually is. I will note that the Quick stick can be upgraded with pretty veneers and the Speed Limb carbon option for a slightly higher cost from the Bearpaw Custom shop. This is the basic plane Jane model Quick Stick that  I have.  The Quick Stick looks good, but if I was to order one, I would be asking for some more "eye candy" on the limbs like the  Olive wood that is on the Redman recurve I have or the speed limbs.

Bearpaw bows from the custom shop, can be finished with the pores, completely concealed if you wish.

All arrows were shot from a static release, by hand at the same session. Actual draw lengths are confirmed / coached by Pat my wife. I use a constant power supply, and a light kit on the chronograph.

Every bow in all of my reviews are set up to be hunting quiet, with minimal vibrations, shock etc.

They are not set up for the fastest speed possible. Chronographing was done at 6 3/4" brace height .

I hope my harsh criticism above has not steered you away from a good bow. The Quick Stick from BearPaw is a good bow, that shoots very well,  is pleasant in the hand and well mannered and easy to like. It is very well made, with precise glue lines , and I do enjoy shooting the Quick Stick a lot. It is another bow that will be hunting this year, not sitting on a rack in the bow room. For my hunting I will be shooting some very heavy arrows, a 400 spine BearPaw Heavy Hunter shaft, with 100 gr steel inserts, and 300 grain Broadheads from it.These fly good for me and the bow is silent with these 800 grain arrows. The Quick Stick is a Hunting bow , that will also do quite well for you on a target or 3D range. When you look at the chart above please notice all chronographing was done with heavy weight arrows , so do not look for fast speeds. My focus is on hunting , and I am a believer in heavy arrows for a silent shot, and deep penetration on large game like Moose and Elk. The Quick Stick , with the Bearpaw Heavy Hunter arrows will suit my needs very well. I like this bow and hope that you do too.

Every Bearpaw bow comes with a 30 year transferable warranty, a modern type string called the Whisper String,{which is a  modern fast and quiet string}, a bow sock, shelf and rest padding material, and a brass nock point. I would like to see a set of rubber string silencers added to the package to make the package complete right out of the box. The cost is small, and they make that first arrow a pleasant experience.
