Review

The Kiowa is a short very nice shooting 52" recurve that will draw to 30". It is a pleasant to shoot little bow that is well suited to use in tight places and pop up  ground blinds, where I like to hunt from. It is surprising to be able to shoot the Kiowa at the low brace heights  I have been shooting it at. A 52" recurve with a 7 1/2" brace is not a common thing if you want a quiet and vibration free bow, but the Kiowa is different and at this low brace it is very quiet, and well mannered in the hand before and after the shot.

For those of us that like the short bows for the blinds with black backgrounds the Kiowa ia also available as a special order  in all Black from Git-r-donearchery in Calgary. The Black Kiowa has a solid black phenolic riser, and black glass limbs with carbon Stabil core like the regular Kiowa has. The Black Kiowa is as good as it gets for hunting in pop up blinds. Those wanting a more traditional look have the standard Kiowa ,made with a phenolic reinforced riser, and Zebrano wood with black glass limbs.  If you want a custom made Kiowa this is also available by special order with exotic woods, and speed limbs .

The Kiowa has a high wrist grip that is quite easy to get used to. The High grip is also of benefit to those of us with shorter draws, as it makes the draw length a bit longer. In my case I draw the Kiowa almost an inch more that most bows. This translates to more performance at no cost compared to a low wrist type bow.

I was able to have some other shooters try the Kiowa and the typical feedback I received was about how smooth it felt, how nice it shot and how easy it was to draw and shoot for shooters with 29 and 30" draw length's. I don't recall having any negative feedback for it in either the standard or black versions.

The Kiowa has been well received . It is another bow that I will be hunting with a lot this fall, particularly when I set up the pop up blinds . The short bows are my first choice to use in blinds, and the Black Kiowa is a model I asked for with blind hunting in mind. I like the way it shoots my heavy weight arrows. A 400 spine  Bearpaw Heavy Hunter arrow tipped with 250 and 300 grain points shoot true and quiet for me. I think this is a good hunting combination for me.

All arrows were shot from a static release, by hand at the same session. Actual draw lengths are confirmed / coached by Pat my wife. I use a constant power supply, and a light kit on the chronograph.

Every bow in all of my reviews are set up to be hunting quiet, with minimal vibrations, shock etc.

They are not set up for the fastest speed possible. Chronographing was done at 7 3/4" brace height with hunting weight arrows.

Every Bearpaw "Bodnik" bow comes with a 30 year transferable warranty, a modern type string called the Whisper String,{which is a  modern fast and quiet string}, a bow sock, shelf and rest padding material, and a brass nock point. Each Bodnik Recurve now also has a carbon Stabil core added for extra stability.

Our local Alberta importer, Git-r-donearchery, in Calgary Alberta  also include silencers and a Bow Stringer with his Bearpaw bows at no extra cost..

The Kiowa is another example of good workmanship from tip to tip  as i have come to expect from Bearpaw/Bodnik bows. Fit and finish is without flaws, from perfect glue lines to the finish coat of sealer. Usualy by now I have something I would like to suggest to the Bowyer to change, but the Kiowa is just fine the way it is. I do not see anything that I can think of  to improve  the way it is. My personal choice is the Black Kiowa, and although I like the looks of the standard version I do prefer the look of the  Black Kiowa  for  hunting in blinds and  I also like the extra weight and durability the all phenolic riser adds to the Kiowa.

The shooters that have a 30" draw and want a short bow are going to find the little Kiowa  will work well for them. Most short bows do not draw to 30", but the Kiowa does. This 50# bow gains 3.8# from 29 to 30".
