From Bearpaw's site

Longbow Raven

The Raven captivates by its precious materials and its enormous shooting performance. Due to its bow length of only 64" (approx. 163 cm) it is a fast and handy all-rounder. The handle is made of a combination of heavy Mycarta and Zebrano, to guarantee a steady shot and to forgive mistakes in shooting. As a result this bow gives considerably less remaining energy to the body and no hand shock can be felt. Finally, but never the least this long bow has a powerful veneer with a nicely structured olive wood which generates a wonderful optically appearance.

Bow length: 64 inches (approx. 163 cm)
 Bow weight: 20 - 55 lbs
 Handle: Mycarta and Zebrano
Limbs: tapered maple with olive veneer and clear glass
 Tips: three-layered Mycarta
 Grip: Locator
 String: Bodnik Whisper String
 Brace height: 7 inches
Warranty: 30 years Bodnik Bows warranty
We recommend to buy the bowstringer Longbow in order not to damage your bow when you string and unstring it.

Review:

Raven Longbow

The Bodnik Raven longbow is a slightly reflexed 64" longbow that shoots very nice. It has no hand shock to speak of. You do know you just shot a bow , however it is something you probably will not notice much at all, unless you are looking for it. The Raven is pleasant to shoot and to look at. The fit and finish is typical Bearpaw, that is, without any flaws, or poor workmanship. The glass is clear without streaks and white spots.

The Olive wood veneers are beautiful and the limb tips are nice and slim. I would like to see the string groove filed a bit deeper on the tips. It has never been an issue, but it does make me feel a bit uncomfortable stringing it. A couple wipes with a round file will set my mind at ease next time I am in the shop. {Henry Bodnik as informed me that the noc depth will be looked into and they will be deeper in the future}.

Dallas with Raven

The  riser is made with Zebrano and a large Phenolic member with a single accent stripe. It is strong and heavy providing a stable and durable platform for the bow. It looks very nice, however I do wish that the grip was smaller, and this is the only negative comment I have received about the Raven from the people that have held and shot it. Everyone seems pleasantly surprised at the smooth shock free experience when they shoot the Raven. Most comment that they are surprised at the speed it shoots. I am not trying to say it is a barn burning speed demon, however for this style of bow I find it is quite good. The Raven is as quiet as my self bows. That is silent!. The only sound is from the nock leaving the string if it is to tight. I am using my usual beaver balls on it mainly from habit. It really doesnft need them for noise, however with any bow and a bare string we will feel vibrations, and the beaver balls eliminate these vibrations almost completely. The Raven is not a high performance bow. The style of the bow prevents this, however for the style of bow it is I think it performs very well.

{ I just had corespondence with Henry at Bearpaw and the Raven will be soon produced with a slimer grip!! This is great news.}

I have had the Raven for a few weeks now, along with several other bows from Bearpaw for reviews, and the consistent good workmanship and materials is evident on every bow. So far every bow has been a good shooter, and the Raven is no exception to this. The feedback I have been receiving from other shooters has been positive, with good comments on the looks, feel after the shot and overall shooting quality.

As with every Bearpaw/Bodnick bow the Raven is equipped to handle fast flight type strings and it comes with Henrys new high performance "Whisper String". Dacron has been banished from the Bearpaw bow line up in favour of the newer and better materials available today. The Raven also has the incredible 30 year Transferable  warranty.  That is confidence in your product.

More of Dallas  shooting the Raven

All arrows were shot from a static release, by hand at the same session. Actual draw lengths are confirmed / coached by Pat my wife. I use a constant power supply, and a light kit on the chronograph.

Every bow in all of my reviews are set up to be hunting quiet, with minimal vibrations, shock etc.

They are not set up for the fastest speed possible.

Recently at a shoot we attended a young lady, Dallas, had the misfortune to crack the riser on her bow, so it seemed only fitting to loan her the Raven for the day. Lucky enough it is the same draw weight has her broken bow. Dallas was kind enough to pose for some photos as we made the course rounds. Thanks Dallas.

Here is a short note from Dallas after shooting the Raven.

The bow shot well with next to no handshock. It had a smooth pull and vibrated very little within the string after release. I did find the grip of the bow to be a little wide making it slightly uncomfortable at first but that was a minor issue. The bow also has a pleasant look and finish. This bow shot extremely well and was a pleasure to shoot. I would definatly recommend it for anyone looking for a hunting or target longbow.

Thanks so much again for lending me the bow when mine broke. It was such an awesome bow. I would definately consider buying one.

Dallas Demers

Thanks Dallas for the Honest comments.

To sum up this review I like the Raven. It is pleasant to shoot, quiet and I seem to be able to shoot it pretty good. No doubt it will find itself in the woods for a few hunts and at a few 3D shoots as time passes. This is just too good of a bow to live on a rack .
