Titan Review

Update Dec 20 Trad Tech "Titan" / Wood-Glass Recurve Limb :

Because the Recurve and longbow limbs are both Trad Tech wood-Glass many of the comments I make apply to both limbs. Other than the obvious RC / LB difference The Trad Tech Wood Glass limbs are what I consider a bargain.

The Longbow Wood Glass limb is only available in the long length , and the recurve is only available in the medium length. This makes for a 60" or 62" Titan, or other 17" ILF riser.

I have been shooting thes  Longbow limbs for almost a year now on the Pinnacle and other  Titan and other ILF bows. I am happy with the way they shoot for me.

Recurve:

Blue text is copied from the Trad Tech site

• World Class ILF Performance & the Beauty of Wood at a Great Price
• 4 Lams using Clear Glass over a Multi-Section Hardrock Maple Wood Core
• Designed in USA, Custom-Made exclusively for TradTech by Samick
• Redline Phenolic Limb Tips are FF/Performance Bow String Compatible
• ILF International Limb Fitting for standardized use on all ILF Risers
• Available in 62” (Medium) Length Only (60” on 17”, 62” on 19” Risers)
• Draw Weights of 35-60# at 28” as marked on the Pinnacle 19” Riser

The  Trad Tech Wood -Glass RC limb has virtualy all of the same characteristics as the Carbon-wood limb, only it is rated for the 19" Pinnacle riser. It is a stable straight and good looking limb at a budget price. In my mind it is a bargain, and should not be overlooked . When we use The Wood-Glass limb on the Titan ,the weight will be more than the rating marked on it .I did not adjust the limb bolts for this test as I do not shoot these limbs from this bow. I do shoot them on the Pinnacle II a lot. They were put on the Titan just for this update. They are set now for a  26" draw length. Even when set for a shorter draw than I have they are a very smooth to shoot limb, and they are also free of noise, vibrations and shock with just  beaver ball silencers on  the Titan,Pinnacle II , Pinnacle and the Warf bows I have. For the person that likes to have  spare limbs  for that emergency on hunting trips the Wood-Glass Recurve or Longbow  limb is an affordable option.

Longbow:

Update DEC 20/08 Trad Tech "Titan" / Wood-Glass longbow limbs

Prior to receiving the Master longbow limbs I was shooting the Wood-GlassLongbow Limbs on  the Pinnacle , Titan and a Warf Bow .I really do not have any complaints other than I think that there is a lot of lost performance due to the high brace height that is designed into both the Master and Wood-Glass longbow limbs. It would be good to see a second generation longbow limb that is designed to shoot at a brace in the 7" to 8" range. I have frequently heard from owners of these limbs that were not satisfied, however in almost every case they were trying to shoot them at a brace height that is far too low. Most had not read the manual for the Titan or Pinnacle and were unaware of the reccomended high brace height for the longbow limbs . When they changed their brace height to the 8 3/4" reccomended setting they also had a change of opinion and noticed immediately that the bow became quiet, and the vibrations went away.

The longbow Limbs were shot with the same limb bolt settings as all the other limbs were. Because I have the Titan tuned and set up for the Master Longbow limbs and the BF Extreem RC limbs I did not change the settings. It is obvious that these limbs are past the point where I would normaly shoot them on this riser. I would definately back out the limb bolts for a smoother felt draw. The shorter length Titan riser and different limb angles from the Pinnacle  push the weight of these limbs up quickly with the limb bolts tightened down and will require a diferent limb bolt setting, to reduce the stack, which is an easy to do adjustment.

There is an advantage to the large brace height. In cold weather shooting with heavy clothes on hitting your arm, and bulky coat is very rare. It also makes for a very quiet shot. These are a good shooting limb and a bargain worth looking into. They shoot quiet, no noise and no vibrations when properly braced. On every bow I have shot them they performed very well. At some longbow shoots I attended they did get a raised eyebrow from the "Old Guard", as a high tech longbow is not in their vocabularity.

It is interesting that although they did not like the idea of an ILF machined Riser longbow ,they wanted to shoot it.

The typical feedback from the Old Guard was

  1.  It shoots real nice,
  2. It hits right where you are looking
  3. That bow has no shock
  4. It is quiet
  5. That is smooth drawing bow
  6. It's quick
  7. Boy that is a heavy bow
  8. That metal riser will be cold
  9. IT Ain't a longbow! This is a longbow!

Well you can't win them all over to 2008 .I am sure a plunger and elevated rest would have put them over the top.

For the shooter with a Titan or other ILF recurve these Longbow limbs make an inexpensive option to be able to shoot a Longbow without needing a new bow.

After thoughts:

By the time you read your way to here you know I like the Trad Tech bows and Limbs. The variety of limbs I have been able to test on the Titan riser shows us some of the many options we have. Although many of the limbs were able to be switched without needing a limb adjustment it should be noted that the Wood Glass Limbs may require an adjustment of the limb bolts to maintain a smooth stack free draw if the bow has been set up for other limbs . {They are built for the 19" Pinnacle .}By doing this you will keep the limb in it's optimum shooting range and it will provide a much smoother draw. It is a good idea to have a scale and check to see what is happening when we change limbs or set up an ILF bow. Unlike the normal bows ,we have and should use the built in adjustments .

On many regular type bows we are accustomed to stack being felt at a given point in the draw length. When it happens there is nothing we can do about it. The ILF platform bows have the advantage of being able to dial in the draw to our draw length and move the stack point for a better experience.

If you purchase limbs from any source make sure you know the riser length they are rated for. Most ILF limbs are rated for 23 or 25" risers, and we will gain a substantial amout of draw weight with shorter risers.

I have come to think highly of the ILF system and the Titan. There are so many options available to us it is a bow that can be made to suit just about any want or need.Since I started the Titan reviews almost a year ago Trad Tech has introduced the Master Longbow Carbon Limb, The Carbon-Wood Recurve limb and a camo riser and camo limbs for those that do not like the Black bows.

I have seen the camo Titans and they look good. If none of the Limbs I tested are to your taste ,there is a world of limbs that will slip into the Titan or any other ILF riser. Looking at the Trad Tech catalogue I see we can have a budget $89. limb in light weight for form practice, small game or to let the kids try, to Olympic quality limbs ranging up to $600.00 or more.  There is a limb to fit any budget.

The wide range to Trad Tech limbs available make this a bow that looks good in Black, wood grain or camo, and range from the economical  good shooting Wood-Glass  to the Olympic quality BF Extreme.

Thats a lot of choices and choice is a good thing!
