While looking for a light weight jacket to wear hunting in the bilnds I use in Bow season and came across the Wolverine Pioneer ans we decided to Review it.
Bow hunting from Pop up blinds is a diferent game, and one thing we do diferent is dress in black, to blend into the black inside of the blinds.
I only hunt with traditional Longbows and recurves, so it is an up close hunt, and concealment is a must. The normal camo is not the best choice to blend into a black background, but it is hard to find a jacket in black that is suitable for bow shooting .We need a smooth front without flaps and pockets sticking out waiting to grab the string. Also we need a lot of free movement, yet the jacket needs to fit close to the body. The sleves need to be snug on the arms without cufs that grab the string. It also needs to be warm for those chilly days, silent when we draw an arrow and waterproof for the wet days.
This is a tall order to fill all of these things I feel I need, and the Pioneer has done it for me.Better still I have room to wear a couple sweaters for the real cold days and not be bound up with a tight fit. I will not try to say this is a winter jacket, but it has served me well this fall and it is surprisingly warm for it's light weight material. I even wear it when we take out the snow shoes . The outer material is waterproof, and snow falling on it just slides off. The pioneer breathes very well so moisture is allowed to escape and help keep us warm when we stop.
To top this off the Pioneer is a good looking nice fitting jacket I can wear to town or on any outing .Around camp the pioneer will be just right on rainy days and cool evenings.
I may have found the perfect jacket for bow hunting in blinds. I do not recomend wearing black walking in the woods during rifle seasons. At dusk walking out wear a head light, or cary a flashlight and turn it on. for safety sake.
